The dessert chajá is a typical dish of Uruguay, more specifically of Paysandú. The recipe is still owned by the family who invented it and although they own a factory, the dessert is made by hand each department prepares a part and is mounted at the end. Ingredients:

  • If you do not want to use meringue bought, you can make a homemade one, beating egg whites to the point of snow with sugar or syrup and baking it for about 7 minutes.

Chajá dessert (Argentine recipe)

Ingredients:

For the bizcochuelo:

  • 6 eggs
  • 180 g sugar
  • 180 g flour
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract

For the filling:

  • 500 g sweet milk
  • 2 meringue discs
  • 1 bag of merenguitos
  • 500 g cream
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 can of peach in syrup

Utensils:

  • Electric mixer
  • Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Mold for sponge cake
  • Mold to put the dessert

preparation:

From the bizcochuelo:

  • With the electric mixer beat the eggs with the sugar and the vanilla essence until a foamy mixture is formed .

  • Pour the mixture into a pan previously greased with butter and flour.
  • Bake at 170 ° C for about 50 minutes .

  • Cover with the whipped cream and place the peach wedges on top.
  • Cover with the last coat of bizcochuelo moistened with syrup.
  • Cover the whole cake with the rest of the cream and decorate with merenguitos.
