Before beginning to remove this type of extensions, it is important that we have prepared the following material to remove the extensions of keratin :

  • Rubbers and hair clips.
  • Pliers.
  • Acetone or alcohol-based gel (there are also specific solutions for removing keratin extensions in any beauty and hairdressing salon).
  • Dryer.
  • Wide barbed comb.
  • Fine combed comb.
  • Purifying shampoo.

The first thing we have to do to start removing the keratin extensions is to pick up a rubber or clip and join all the hair in a high ponytail . In this way you will find it much easier to find all the joints of your keratin extensions and to work with small tufts. It is important that you do this so that you do not forget any tufts during the process.

How to remove keratin extensions

As we have indicated, the best way to remove keratin extensions is to work with small tufts . The next thing we have to do is to remove the tufts of keratin from the neck area one by one from the ponytail we did in the previous step. To do this, you can use a comb with very fine prongs at one end or with your index finger.

Remember that you must extract the extensions of keratin one by one since, in this way, you will avoid removing your natural hair and it will be easier to remove it.

When you already have all the keratin extensions removed from the queue, take the pliers and cut the joints to be able to release them and thus, to break them. To do it correctly you must take a keratin union , isolate it from the rest and press it with the pliers . After this first pressure, move the pliers to another section of the joint and press again until it is weakened and breaks. You must repeat this process until all the joints of the keratin extensions are broken.

When all the joints are broken, some remains of these joints will surely remain. Use the fine spiked comb to remove some debris but if you can not eliminate them all, do not insist on the comb anymore as you can damage your natural hair.

The next step to remove keratin extensions is to rub the joints you just broke with acetone or alcohol-based gel , although it is best to buy a solution to remove joints from the extensions in a store of aesthetic products . When you have the product, rub it with your fingers on the parts of the hair where there are broken keratin joints and let it sit for 10-15 minutes . When the indicated time has elapsed, the keratin bonds will break.

This step is optional but is very effective for the solution or oil you have used to break the keratin bonds to work faster. To do this, you only have to take a dryer with a low temperature to not damage the hair and heat the joints for 5-10 minutes . In this way, keratin will be easier to remove.

It is time to remove the keratin extensions altogether . To do this, hold with one hand the scalp and the root of your natural hair while with the other hand you will have to go pulling very gently the joints to remove the extensions. You must be very careful with this step, since you could pull out your natural hair.

In case you are feeling a lot of tightness in your scalp, it means that the joints are not yet broken. Therefore, you should repeat the previous steps until they are definitely broken.

Once you have removed the keratin extensions from your hair, you will have to use the wide-spiked comb and then the fine-spiked comb to remove any leftover junctions from the extensions.

When you are finished, you will only have to wash your hair with a purifying shampoo to remove the remains of the solution and also, it is advisable that you use a nourishing mask for the possible damages that your hair has suffered.
